Monday 1st July; Loch Loyal to Loch Ness- 99 miles

This was always going to be a long day and started well waking up to the sun and having my porridge down by the loch side.

Then, once under way the deserted road took me across vast moorland overlooked by dark mountains, but always with distant peaks reminding me how big the country is up here. There's a sense of doing good mileage so far but not getting any nearer.

After slogging up a few steep passes there was a brilliant run to Lairg to recharge the phone and have a couple of pints of McEwans while I waited!

Then on following a high mountain B road back to Dingwall and eventually Inverness.

It was getting late, but doesn't get dark till about 11, so pushed on to find the perfect spot by Loch Ness.

Then bed - knackered!
